Radio won't turn off.

Radio is stuck on. Will not turn off with power button. Turns off only when engine is stopped. Stock radio in 2000S. Any ideas would be appreciated.

usually a radio stuck on is a sign of a bad ignition switch. However, glad you provided more details i.e w/ button no reaction and only off when engine off.

So... my recommendation is to first pull down the faceplate and clean the contacts on faceplate and mates on radio either w/ rubbing alcohol or a pencil eraser.

Otherwise, your power button may be going bad or have something jammed up in it (like the peeling button coating ). In which case, take some compressed air (i.e. like the stuff used to clean PCs and sensitive equip) or toothpick / paperclip (even an artist razor) and clean out around the button b/w it and the radio chassis.

I would also try detaching the battery cables and reattaching them. It is my understanding this will reprogram your radio. Make sure you have the programming code. If you get stuck, I have a radio from a 2000. You can PM me if you want.

I have the Becker security code software. If you need the code, send me a PM with the last 4 characters from the radio serial # and I can give you your code.

Thanks to all of you for your suggestions. I removed the face place and rubbed the contacts with a clean soft cloth, reinstalled the face plate and all is well!

Apparently there was a little dirt or perhaps not seated properly. Thanks again.

Glad to hear all is back to normal. Great job of [and perfect example of why it's important] explaining all the symptoms of an issue.

Now, turn that radio off and listen to the sweet sound of the flat 6 symphony

I never play the radio when I drive, but this is the wife's car. I agree that nothing sounds better than a flat 6!
