Teardown Pictorial on Boxster Engine
For those who do not frequent Pelican's Boxster Board, owner Wayne and tech Tony Callas (Callas Rennsport) have a fantastic pictorial on the teardown of a Boxster engine, along with descriptions of the process. I highly recommend checking it out, as a picture is worth a thousand words (lots of IMS coverage here).

Thanks for sharing. I will order that book as soon as it is available.

+1 on sharing the pictoral.
Wouldn't it be something if a relatively inexpensive soln is found to this problem? It would give all owners some piece of mind and reduce forum threads by approx 50%. But I've got some questions about IMS. It seems the failures happen to the 986s and not 987s (lower case s designating plural not just the S model). Is that true? I don't seem to recall a 987 owner reporting IMS failure. Are the 987s a different design or they just haven't accumulated enough mileage for them to start breaking? |
You must have missed them, there have been reports of failed IMS on the 987.

insite beat ya with his post by about 3 hours yesterday :D |
Guess I shouldn't work so much and spend more time reading the 986 forum threads!

Don't have the time to look at ALL the threads dealing with IMS, but it seems the ones that start with "I blew my engine up today..." were all authored by 986 owners.
Any 987 owners who have experienced IMS failure? Please raise your hand. |
