Replacing Emblem
 

The Boxster S emblem on the rear lid of my car is faded and looks bad so I have ordered a replacement emblem. In the past when I removed emblems I have done so when the vehicle was new do I need to handle the removal any different since this emblem has been on the vehicle 6 years?

I have also ordered new wheel arch trims, clear side markers and touch up paint.

The previous owner did some touch ups to some rock chips but it looks like they used the wrong color paint and did not fill the chips. At least they covered them though so there is no surface rust. Any tips on filling these correctly?

Use a hair-dryer to heat it up, then use dental floss to slowly remove it.

As i recall , you use a thin string or thread and pull it between the painted surface and the letter. Heating it ala ekam wil certainly help.

Glue / felt? remains
 

My boxster logo was gone when I purchased the car - but a felt like residue remains. Will heat take this off - or do i need to use goo off or some sort of adhesive remover?

Use a good quality clear coat polish or scratch remover, make sure it is clear coat safe and not a rubbing compound.

Easier way?
 

I am a little nervous about rubbibng away on the paint - it would be easier to just get a new a new logo. But then my concern is it wouldn't sit flat and stick well - with the remants of the old glue there.

Go to an auto paint supply and get a qt. of Prepsol. It's a solvent designed to degrease paint prior to painting and so is safe. It will loosen any residual backing/adhesive from the old emblem. But use it with a microfibre cloth to be sure you don't leave a bunch of scratches.

From the goo gone folks...worth noting.
 

Test first on the width of your door panel. Use a Q-tip of Goo Gone,
rub gently, wait just a few minutes, wash the area with a soapy white
cloth, rinse the area with another wet cloth. Let this air dry for one
hour. Check the last cloth for discoloration. If nothing came off on
the cloth and neither the clear coat or the paint show bubbling, dulling
or fading, then you can use Goo Gone anywhere on the painted surface.

Wurth Citrus Degreaser is the best; will not harm the paint whatsoever. You may also try 3M Adhesive remover, as a second choice (both highly recommended by the concours gurus in the Chicago PCA).

I picked up a can of the 3M and gave it a try. It took repeatred sprays and a little rubbing but the old residue came off. Seemed gentle on the paint - but it does take off the wax.

Some ghosting where the logo was - so I will hit it with some polish and then re-wax.
