Smile Test drove 2006 Boxster S for a day

I have had a 2000 Boxster S for a year and a half.

I always wondered if it was worth it to switch for ''just 30 more HP''.

Well I can tell you that there's A LOT more to the 987 S than just more HP.

I was amazed at the seating position: you sit much lower and feel like you're ''in'' the car rather than sitting ''on top of the seat'' in the 986 S. It makes the drive feel more special, more intimate.

The shifter is 10X better with shorter, crisper throws that don't wobble from side to side in each gear.

Steering response is also superior with quicker reflexes; less turns lock to lock needed to change directions. Kind of like a Honda S2000...

The engine feels more powerful, but I think that the improved engine note fools the driving into thinking the difference is much more than it really it. It does have better throttle response and seems to pull harder at high RPMs.

And the ride is just as comfortable if not more. Don't know how Porsche manages to improve handling yet not crush your spine in the process.

I am def. going to buy a 20006 Boxster S. My budget doesn't allow for a 2007, that will be for next year

glad I could make someone laugh... seriously, when I look at car stuff on the computer - whether it be car videos on youtube, or this forum, etc - and my wife walks in the room and says what are you looking at - I tell her "car porn".

reading this makes me want to go test drive one - but reading this thread also makes me think that driving a new S would be BAD for my bank account...

Markov79 from TCL?

I'm with you on the 987 improvements over the 986. The one thing that I didn't like was the engine sound - the 2.7 987 wasn't as delicate as my 2.7 986. Didn't have that sewing-machine-like thrum.
The interior, on the other hand, is a huge improvement, as is the shift feel. Great car.
Go buy now.

Yes Markov79 from TCL that bought a Z4M Roadster a month ago but missed his Boxster S so much that he is now buying a 987 S

The only thing that pisses me off is that the car doesn't have xenons but I will be putting aftermarket ones....

Right now I temporarily have a 986S and a Z4M in my driveway; automotive heaven but for just a week
