Spacers Question
My car is a 2000 base. I have 18" wheels. I have the standard sized tires with the OEM Pirelli tires.
any suggestions on what size spacers I shoudl go with - or what sized spacers is considered "standard" if there is such a thing? I have seen a couple photos online here of spacers - but not many posts that decribed what sized spacers to get for a car setup like mine. My car is not lowered now - but I may in the future do mild lowering with either ROW M030 or aftermarket springs. I don't want my wheels to "stick out" but wan them to be more flush with the wheel wells...right now the wheels look a bit "sunk in". i have seen some ebay retailers selling sets that include 7mm front and 14mm rear, plus bolts. i can get themin silver or in black. maxspeed motors sells a black setup that has everything i'd need. i'm wondering if 7/14 woudl be not enough or just right. I believe another forum member here, crios, has like 17 or 18mm spacers... not tons more but for sure thicker.. and photos of his car the stance looks great. i don't want to upset the balance of my car - and I don't know if the different spacer kits will change that to a degree that I would notice. thanks for any suggestions. |
I used to run 7s and 14s on a 2001 Boxster S before I got new wheels made to a similar stance. I read somewhere that Porsche doesn't recommend anything more than 15mm.

I have a pair of 15mm spacers (1/2 inch) and the bolts to go with them if you want to buy them from me. $70 + the hard cost of shipping.
You'll have to measure your wheels and see if this makes the tires stick out too far or not. |
I am using 15MM H&R spacers in the rear right now and lowered with the Eibach Pro kit. Running 19's and it looks great.

do most people JUST do rear spacers, or is it more common to do both front and rears? it sounds like hte fronts are usually much more mild...
7/14 or 7/15 sounds like it would be fine. but there are guys going as wide as 18 in the rear. is it really going to be noticeable between 14 and 18 visually? will my car drive differently with 14 or 15 or 18mm spacers in the rear. if I do rears but NOT fronts vs. both front/rear - will it really change the handling dfynamics...or not. |
Why not run wider wheels with the proper offset? I can understand if cost is an issue, but a nice 10" wheel in the rear tends to fill out the fender wells quite nicely (265's up to 285's). I also run 8's (all 18's) in the front and could even use a bit more tire (from 225's to 235's).

I just got my new wheel/tire package on. Due to non-OEM wheel offsets, I needed no spacers in the front, and but 15mm rear H&R spacers on. Even with the stock 17" wheels they looked much better and much less 'sunk in'.
