Custom Exhuast for Boxster with 3.6L motor?

I just got my boxster back with the 3.6 motor in it and my mechanic said the stock exhaust is probably really hurting the performance with this high output motor so i'd like to get some opinions on it. On my past 3 cars i always took my car to a custom exhuast shop and they replaced my smaller piping with something like 2.25" or 2.5" piping and it always worked out pretty well and my past cars didnt nearly have the HP i do now. I cant really afford a new exhuast online i just want to get rid of the small piping and the custom shop can probably do it for like $300 or so from past experience. Does anyone know the size of our stock boxster S pipping, is it 1.75? Any opinions?

Hey Lewis, I congrats on the 3.6L swap... I am envious of you for that... I wish I had a 3.6 in mine!

Anyhow, I've got a brand new GEMBALLA performance exhaust system available... If you're interested, PM me...

I hope you aren't using 2.5, 2.7 or 3.2 headers. The port sizes on those headers are much smaller on those motors than the ports on the heads of the 3.6 L motor. You need to deal with proper headers before you deal with exhaust.

Todd, Yes Gordon did not use stock 3.2 headers, he used aftermarket 3.2 headers with larger ports.

chaudanova yes im interested, can you PM me how much?

While the ID of the aftermarket pipes may be larger, the actual port size at the mating flange is too small on any of the 986 headers, stock or aftermarket. Unless he custom ported them to match. If not you are choking the h*ll out of the motor right at the top.

Take a look at the linked photo, on the top is the 996 3.4/986 gasket and the bottom is the 996 3.6/3.8 gasket

Hmm i wonder why he said he couldnt use 3.6L headers becasue of the exhuast wouldnt fit or something. Do you know where i could get a cheap stock set of 3.6L headers? Is that a stock 3.2L headers in that pic? thanks for the info Todd.

So no one has gone to a custom exhuast shop to get bigger pipping?
