Where is the end of the line ?
Perhaps I missed it - but have never seen a thread about about the top mileage one can get or expect, 100K, 150K, more?

If you mean engine longevity, change your oil frequently (5-6k miles) and it should last a good long time.

My impression is that the more you drive them like they were intended to be driven and changing your oil frequently, they last forever.
My car is at 178,000 as a daily driver, weekly AX'er, monthly DE'er and yearly BRBS'er. It still has the original (albeit somewhat seeping) RMS, the original clutch and flywheel. I've replaced suspension parts as they wear, brakes, tires, etc. Happy Boxstering, Pedro |
2 Cars 1 VIN
Thanks - in perusing this forum I didn't see many high mileage boxsters - so this begged me to ask the question about driving 100K plus miles.
Now recently when I was in my local Audi dealership the salesman asked if I had ever bought a car there - and I said yes, but I bought it one part at a time ;) By my math, if I paid for the car once in a purchase and once in repairs - I bought two cars - I just have one VIN to show for it. |

I think it is fair to say that the Boxster would be much closer to your Audi experience than say, a Miata or a Lexus. I love the Box but as a used car, I think you would do better to have low expectations, cost wise. These babies are NOT cheap or easy to fix. IMHO, the only good used Boxster is one under warranty (cost wise comment). Good luck. |

Depending on how long the motor in my 986 lasts, there may be one swap in it for me. After that, I'd love to do an electric conversion - once 100-150HP in-hub electric motors become widely available (or imagine 75 HP at each wheel), I think the Boxster would make an awesome conversion platform.
Maybe just a pipe dream, but I think an electric 986 would be sweet. |
