It looks like my right rear bearing is on its way out. In looking at the replacement, I note the easiest route (apart from paying someone to do it
would be to obtain a specialty hub/bearing puller, like the one made by Sir Tools. (
http://www.samstagsales.com/SirTool/st_b90_p2c.jpg) The problem is that it's between $250 to $300+ bucks to buy a tool that, hopefully, I won't be using again any time soon. I checked one place (germanautoparts) for a tool that is supposedly similar, but there's a two week waiting period. My questions:
1) is there anyone in the Atlanta area who has the tool and willing to rent it (plus a deposit equal to cost of tool)??
2) any other sources to rent an appropriate tool? I've seen other versions that just pull and install the bearing, but it would be easier to have one that also pulls the hub, correct?
3) should I forget about the tool altogether and just pull the whole carrier off to take to a machine shop to R&R the bearing, particularly since I need an alignment anyways?
Thanks for the comments!
