spark plug tube question
question for anyone who has replaced these.....Did you buy the $35 o-ring grease???? This seems nuts!......almost more than all the parts.
Thanks |
IIRC, it's just a silicone grease. Silicone grease is often used to lube o-rings because unlike petroleum based grease, it won't attack the rubber. Has lots of other uses too.
You can get a tube of silicone grease for under $5 from NAPA. see:http://www.super-lube.com/silicone-lubricating-grease-ez-53.htm |
$35 for grease? I've rebuilt allot of things that have O-rings, car engines and dozens of jet engines (USAF/civilian). The O-rings used in the spark plug tubes are probably made of neoprene so they don't degrade while being exposed to petroleum products. You can use something as simple as Vaseline to lube the O-ring so it won't get cut when installing.
