Non-litronic upgrade?

the range of my stock halogen lights is starting to bug me. At higher speeds I tend to look farther down the road than my lowbeams can light up.
Has anyone upgraded the bulbs with excellent results?
I'm not sure if getting a brighter bulb is going to add more distance, probably just brighter?

Hello Boxster folk. I am Jeph from Dallas, TX and I'm new to the board and new to the Porsche autodom. I recently acquired a 2000 Boxster this Christmas and it's surreal!

I also seek the wisdom of 986Forum members regarding Non-Litronic lights (I bet 90% of my posts will be about lighting). I recently purchased an H7 5500K HID (Xenon) lighting system. Upon removing my headlights I discovered the the swap won't be as easy as I hoped (the wiring isn't readily exposed -though I love the simplicity).

Would it be ill-advised to proceed with this Xenon upgrade? Am I looking to induce any electrical problems with this project?

I hope I'm not hijacking Perfectlap's post, but maybe this could be an option for the problem we share of lackluster headlights.

try the renntech forum. I did a search on litronics and there is an upgrade kit that is required along with the HID lights themselves. It seems labor intensive, not just plug and play.

I looked at some of those upgrade kits a long time ago, and yes they seem very time intensive for the install. For a little more money I went through Suncaost in FL and for $1050 got the Litronics...You want better lighting...thats the way to go....

Ahem! Moving this thread back to its original topic...

I have investigated Silverstar replacement lamps and will probably buy some soon. They are not expensive (less than $50) and are not only supposed to be brighter and bluish in color (versus the standard yellow) but they also are supposed to throw the light further out, extending your night vision at those crazy-high speeds.

If anyone else has done the SilverStar lamp replacements, please post your thoughts on them here as I'd like to know if they last or burn out quickly and really perform the way they're marketed!

Are the Litronics from Sun Coast true plug and play? I always hear talk about some module required.

Does it automatically level?

RandallNeighbour 01-31-2005 01:45 PM

You should call Suncoast and ask these questions... they're good questions. I've heard that aftermarket Litronics do not auto-level, but the factory ones should.

jfmillr 01-31-2005 02:12 PM

the ones I got from Suncoast, aftermarket OEM DO have the autoleveling built in. When I start the car they move down then raise themselves up...
The lights did come with a module that had to be wired up. but that stuff was included in the 1050 I paid.
