Shift Knob Swap

I would like to poll your collective wisdom on How to properly remove the factory (all Black knob) from the shaft of my 98' base model.

I just bought a nice Savannah/Carbonfiber unit and want to replace it.

If anybody can help me with this it will be greatly appreciated

From what I remember from removing mine(2000) , the boot should have clips that around the bottom of it which you should easily be able to snap out of place. Then the shift know, with a little force, slid right off. Here is a pic of mine.....

put it in second gear and pull back, it's easier to do then pull up.

Jfmrll, how did you connect that iPod? I am curious.

I have the Alpine IVA-D901 and as one of the optional upgrades you can plug a device by Alpine into the radios seperate brain/control unit which gives a digital link up to the radio through a device called the KCA-420i I love it!!! Direct digital signal and I get to bring every peice of music I have along for the ride. I also just installed XM radio through direct digital inputs. I dont listen to the AM or FM anymore....Also this unit allows for the iPod to be controller from the radio.... :)

Thanks for the answer. I looked at this unit. Hmmh.., yes, it does look cool...but that works only with Alpine units...oh well...

what do you think of the alpine thingy?

I have one as well -- an alpine DVD player (mine is the touch-screen one) with my 40GB ipod connected. however, on mine -- the deck does not show all my songs, will refuse to play in shuffle mode, and will not allow me to directly select a song from an album or list (when i try to, it default to the first song from the first album on my ipod). it is VERY frustrating. are you having the same problems? i dont know if it is my deck or the ipod transfer unit that is doing it.

i would ask the shop that installed it, but they gave me the "we dont know the options -- this is the first one we installed" thing. i paid over $1600 for this deal, and I really want it to work correctly.

although i do admit the sound quality rocks. I have my ipod in the center compartment -- how do you have yours mounted? is it just laying there? do you have a bracket under it?

thanks for your help :)
