Where's my car? 03-03-2009 01:32 AM

Car stalls randomly, idleing with popping noises on startup.

Ive got two problems here.

1. My car stars randomly sometimes when i let it roll in neutral. any ideas??

2. Every morning, my car idles and the intake makes popping noises. Its starting to get annoying. I'm thinking MAF but my engine light never came on after i replaced it. Could it be that i got the wrong MAf?? possible a non electronic throttle.

Please oh wise people help me solve these issues.

Last question.. my car is reaching 90,000.. so far, ive done ( 1.OIL change 2. oil filter. 3 new break pads 4. airfilter 5. engine treatments.) Im thinking about doing sparks.. any other things i should be doing?

Can you try tapping on the MAF sensor with a screw driver handle when it's idling? If the idle changes you've got a bad MAF sensor.

Did you disconnect the battery

and let the memory in the ECU expire so that after you reconnected things the ECU would have to learn what the normal readings from the MAF were? Remember the part # on the MAF? And what model year?

At 90k, you are probably using aging O2 sensors and the AOS is suspect if original. And the front motor mount.

Plugs are usually good for a good while but if these other things are bad, they may be fouled. Know anything of the maintenance history of the car before you bought it?

ive already replaced the two front 02 sensors.

im thinking about doing a c foam

i don't know it just feels like theres a lot i need to do.

anyone's boxster heat past 180 degrees on a hot day or in traffic for a while. Mine does but it never exceeds like 195 and when it reaches that level, radiators come on and it cools down.

i bought the car in 04 he had changed the top, new clutch, new flywheels and fixed the air conditioner. Year later i had a minor accident in the front right side, so i got new radiators and headlights etc. so nothing big.

This really sounds like MAF issues. However, make sure the intake hose is seated fully and properly. Those OEM clamps can rust through after a few years and are cheap to replace. Otherwise it sounds like the MAF is sending improper readings but your CEL isn't going on because the readings are not 'Out Of Range'.
