Single Din Aftermarket Receiver Recommendation?
 

Hey all,

I am looking to upgrade the factory receiver. I don't need nav or dvd. Just something that reads mp3 cds, front auxillary input, ipod control and looks good with the porsche. I have an 03 boxster S with the upgraded factory BOSE setup. Also if it is relatively easy to install for someone who has never installed a car stereo before. Thanks in advance.

From what I've read, the factory Bose system will create some problems as the method of communication to the amp is different from most aftermarket systems.

I have the low-end stereo option in my 03 S and I'm going with the Alpine CDA-105 head unit when it is released at the end of March. It's a 2009 model and I like the fact that it will control and charge my iPod Touch. The iPod /USB input will be in the glovebox.
I'm also adding an Alpine MRP-F300 4/3/2 channel amp and some Infinity 6020CS component speakers.

The real culprit is not Bose so much as the MOST bus that uses optical cable on the amp. There are some extremely difficult was to beat that problem, too tough for me and I'm fairly electrically and electronically skilled.

Or some dump the amp and replace the whole system with aftermarket equipment.

My ears are so bad the Bose sounds fine to me.

You won't be able to replace just the head unit due to the fiber optic issue in your car. A good stereo shop should be able to install a new head unit and amp and wire the existing speakers into it though. Spending a little more with an active crossover so the subs in the rear deck will get the right frequency is also recommended.

If I were you I'd just see if you can add an iPod adapter to what you have to get that functionality.
