Daily driver + DE: Eagle F1 Asymmetric?
Anyone have experience with Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric tires?
I need four tires *immediately* and am looking for something to double duty for daily driving and DE use. I want to stay at or under $800 and Tire Rack currently has these for $849 after rebate. Close enough to budget that I can swing that if the tires are really good. Of course I'm open to suggestions. |
I never had them but I overheard a few guys giving them a rather bad review.
I was looking at Falken RT-615 which also would come in under $800: http://www.vulcantire.com/cgi-bin/tiresearch.cgi?stock=620&f=azenis_rt615_t.htm&refa d=Froogle620 |
I have the NItto NT555 Extreme ZR 225/40R18 on the fronts. $124 per tire and 265/35R18 on the rears. $181 per tire.
I never even heard of Nitto tires, but the 2000 Boxster I purchased had them installed. I can't say enough about how much I like these tires. The ride is smooth and they stick like glue on dry and wet surfaces. I liked them so much I purchased 4 tires for my Jaguar XJR. I had Michelin Pilot Sports and Pirellis asymetrico previously on the Jag and I like the ride with the Nitto's better at about 50% or less of the cost. Eric |

I made a decision! Bought the Dunlop certificate from FTD and ordered the SP Sport Maxx.

Seems like a better DE tire. Tommy |
Tommy, I agree. For DE the Z1 Star Spec would be better. I do a few DE events but most of my driving is commuting to and from work so I compromized with the Sport Maxx which I felt would last a little longer.
|
Chris Zang, did you end of getting the Direzza Star Specs? If so, how do you like them? It's almost time for new tires and I'm seriously considering these after doing some research. If anybody else has experience with the Star Spec tire I like to hear your impressions. Thanks!

I'm trying to break traction on my Z1 and still couldn't do it. They stick stick stick...

Second the vote for Dunlop Direzzas - Read the reviews and look at any recent SCCA National Tour or Pro Solo results in the ST, STS or STU classes.

So not to chew up the SP Sport Maxx, I bought Direzza Star Spec for my track wheels. During two DEs they lived up to the positive reviews. The PCA advanced instructor was not as gracious. He had me wait much longer to brake going into a turn and we barely stayed on the track. "These tires SUCK!" was he exact wording. I think he expected too much out of a street tire.

Just got back from Blackhawk Farms with my F1 Asymmetrics. I love them. They're awesome in the dry and the wet.
Hope what you got works out for you. |
