Hardtop Question
Okay guys, I got a hardtop for this winter and something's been bugging me.
I need to know if anything goes over the 4 holes by the front latch of the hardtop and if it does, does anyone have a part number? Thanks, JBG |
There is actually a cover piece that fits over the latch. The cover attaches to the top using those 4 holes.

We call it the bow tie.

Bowtie
Jeff,
Got a part number? Thanks, JBG |
I would just call the dealer i will bet that there is only one and they will know what your talking about.

BTW-How heavy is that hardtop? Do you need a pully and winch or is this a two man job?
|
Hardtop weight
Its not so heavy, but it is awkward. Its too wide for you to hold it, and there is simply no way to take it off without 2 people unless you have the winch. I've had it on the car since I bought it so I've not had to store it yet. I'm thinking of building a rack out of plumbing pipe and insulation foam (pipe foam) for the areas that the hardtop will sit on.
If I had to guess, I would think that its between 60-70 lbs. |
yes i know someone who build a rack out of copper tube.
you can get a porsche rack and its not that much... it also comes complete with a porsche boxster hardtop cover with a color crest on. |
Yeah, but I think I want to mount it to the wall in my garage so It won't be sitting on the floor. I've got a small garage and every bit of space counts. The Porsche rack looks good no doubt. I just can't see it being that hard to replicate and I've got to fiture out how to attach it to the studs in the wall.

The trim cover is 986 563 551 00.

Thanks for info. I am glad I live in a climate where the top is not essential!
|
I would not have your wife help you lift it my wife dropped mine on the back of my car and the guide pin put a real nice dent in my trunk. She then started crying because she knows that I can't be mad when tears are running down her face

You can always try this.

I wish but it is Paris Hilton

Automon, so thats not your wife... then I've got to ask, why do you have a picture of Paris Hilton as your avatar?
Oh, and my girlfriend is taking offense at your statement ;) I've only had it off once or twice when I was adjusting the pins so that I can get my top on straight and not too tight. She was quite helpful. It is awkward even with two people. Especially inside of a garage where its not very wide and you have to walk funny to clear the back of the car. But the way I see it, it goes on once in the winter, and off once in the spring :) Then TOPLESS all the way! Toolpants, thanks for the part number. You're a life saver. JBG |
Jeff,
Okay, I tried to order the part, and I got 3 separate things: 986 563 551 00 A03 986 563 551 00 B12 986 563 551 00 FFF I assume that the last 3 digits refer to a color? Anyone have any idea what just a black trim would be? Thanks again, JBG |
Why Paris? Because I love dumb wealthy women they are my favorite
|
Ooops. The part number I gave is missing the extension for the color code.
Black plastic trim cover is 987 563 551 00 B12. |
was that 986 or 987? I'm guessing 986 :)
|
Ooops again. The part number starts with 986, not 987, and is a valid part number according to the December price list. Full retail is $7.84 and is called hard top lining cover.
