Well gang, the time has come. I said good-bye to "Foxy" on January 1, 2009. The last four years have converted me into a Porsche fanatic, through and through. What started as a car to hold me over until I could get a BMW, forever changed me.

Unlike a lot of the stories you read on this forum, my car was a shining star. The only non-scheduled repairs were a couple of O2 sensors and a mass airflow meter. Other than that, I have nothing bad to say about this example of German engineering. Maintenance can be expensive, but for me, it's been worth it.

Though my beloved Porsche has found a new home out on the left coast (watch out for those liberals Foxy!), I have continued my search for the next piece of Stuttgart to occupy my pastime and garage. What's next for me? I'm thinking Carrera... I'll definitely keep you all posted. And as for this forum, I don't plan on leaving.

Anyway, it's always hard to part with a loved one. Most I miss, but also regret selling a few...depends what's next in line. Good time to be searching, as the market is in your hands.

I would regret selling this car if I weren't planning on getting another Porsche. But it was time to part. I feel like I need something bigger -something with a back seat (ha). I did ok on the sale, not too bad for an 8 year old sports car in a recession. But I'm happy, and the buyer is happy.

Congratulations on the sale!!! Enjoy the hunt for your new wheels, I've always found that to be half the fun. And you doubted Karma.....lol. :cheers:

I'm sad to hear you sold your Boxster, it was one of the best looking cars here. But I look forward to seeing your new 911 (or 987?) when you find the right one.

Sorry to see your car go, I really liked it. I've been creeping around these forums for a few years but just started posting....I was hoping to see your car in the future since we are both in Texas. Oh well.....good luck finding a new car. I must say, go for the 997s....just got a '09 with the PDK transmission and words cannot describe how fast that thing is. It is truly a carnival ride.

Sad to see your car go, but I'm sure somebody else will love having it in their garage.

Jeph, you should be able to find a cream puff of a Carrera in this economy if you take your time. Have you looked in the classifieds in the PCA magazine or web site? That seems to be where all the fanatics list their pristine examples of each model.

I'd go for a loaded 996 S I actually like the styling more to that of a 997. Maybe you can be really patient and get a 996 turbo for somewhere around the price of a new 997, I'm not sure how much those are going for, but I bet you wouldn't regret it one bit!

There is no 996S -there's the 4S, but no S. And yes, if I wait for a 997S, that would be in the ballpark of a 996TT. Yet another option -thanks for reminding me!

E) 996 Turbo

I've been watching those 996 values drop drop drop. Last year I test drove a cherry C4s (red/tan). Had the financing lined up and sales were starting to cool so I figured I was in a good position to negotiate. But like any good market watcher I figured it was better to wait and see if the downward trend continued.
Man that was a good call!! That C4S would have lost at least $10K in value, at least. I think closer to $14K. It took four years for my Boxster to lose that much value.

At this point I don't think its worth it to sell my Boxster....ever.
I'm simply not going to find a better car for what I will get in a sale. No other car will draw as many compliments and provide an equal level of driving pleasure without spending more money. Amazing really, the car still looks as modern as it did when it hit street in Europe 13 years ago.

I think I'm just going to average down and go ahead with a four wheel drive Carrera as my winter mobile and drive the Boxster during the summer. But I think with the economy in the toilet for another 12-16 months, i wouldn't be buying anything yet. It's only going to get cheaper and I keep on waitin'. Only issue I'm running into is that way too many of the 996 C4S are Cabrios.

I can really use a larger car to commute back and forth to PA every week. I'm thinking XJR or CL500. Like Perfectlap, though, I don't see any point in selling the Boxster. For what I'll get for a '97 in this market, I might as well keep it forever. It's a great car to drive, just a little small for what I'm currently asking of it.

I had occassion to visit the new Porsche dealer (that the bastards just built right up the street from my house) and sit in some new Porsches. It's hard to argue with the 997's interior. Everything about it blows the 996 away. Since the interior is where you live, my vote is for the 997.

By the way, when I hit Mega Millions or Powerball (any day now) I'm going to order mine in Dark Olive Metallic with Stone Gray leather.

Jeph, you had better get that Carrera after wimping out on me for the last two DE events! Seriously though, if we both end up at a DE someday, I'll be happy to lend you my Boxster for a few laps and take the future 996 / 996TT / 997S off your hands. That would probably be too much car for a track newbie. Just watching out for you!

Last summer, a good friend of mine picked up an almost new (6K miles) '07 997 Carrera S, all black with black wheels, performance options (headers/sport exhaust) and upgraded suspension for $80k.

Wonder where pricing is now?
