Automatic Window Switch Function
All of a sudden, today, when I push the passenger window switch; the result is that it's lost the auto up / down function. The window only raises / lowers while the switch is depressed. The driver's side works as it's supposed to, and as the passenger side did until today. I did disconnect the battery neg terminal yesterday, to reset a CEL (O2 sensor code), but other than that, nothing's changed and all else works as before.... Any suggestions? Car is '00 986'S' w/ 51k miles.
Best,
Andy

superglide,
Just raise/lower the window three or four times in a row and it should work normally.

It resets the window travel information in the ECU
If that doesn't work, switches are cheap and easy to replace. I've replaced both of mine.

Thanks Randall,
Fortunately, I do have a extra switch or two, among the many spare parts accumulated over the years of ownership of this wonderful car. I was about to list all my extra/duplicate parts & accessories in the classified section this weekend; but I'll just have to wait and see if I do in fact need to change out this switch....
Best,
Andy

Why not list the items on this forum?

Sorry. Incomplete sentence. I meant the Classies on this forum.... But I've got a bunch of 911sc stuff as well, so that'll have to be on Pelican. Stay tuned....
Best Wishes,
Andy

If raising/lowering it several times does not work. Try lowering it and holding the switch for 10 seconds after the windows is all the way down then raising it and holding it another 10 seconds after the window is fully closed.
I had the same issue after disconnecting my battery and remembered reading somewhere on the forum about doing one or the other for several seconds so did both for 10 and it reset my windows.

Will do, Ian, and thanks! But if The Neighbors didn't think I was a bit off by now, they certainly will when they see me sitting in the car, raising, lowering, raising, lowering the windows......
Best Wishes,
Andy
