Bought new engine!! How much HP does it have?

I know I sound like a complete rookie but I bought an engine from a 2004 911 Carrara C4S and when i searched it and it says they come with 3.6L 315 HP which is a nice bump from what i had. Then i get the reciept in the mail and it says 04 911 (3.6L), 345 HP (x51 opt). My question is did come of those cars come with 345 HP with the x51 bump or is it a misprint? I attached a picture of the car, the exhuast does look different than other 04 C4S's. Thanks for the help!

Oh and heres the Vin # incase anyone has a carfax and can see what type of model it is: WP0CA299X4S653145

I believe the base was 320bhp with the base engine and 345bhp with the X51.

You "accidently" got an X51? What luck!

haha! I must have, thats awesome! Now heres another question, the shop putting it in says they will have to use a lot of top end parts to make it fit and where the X51 makes its extra power is in the top parts..? Now i dont know how much they can use since i blew my motor with the IMS failure and i'm sure most of the top end parts like valves and cams cant be used right?

Technically, on a horizontally opposed engine, the heads aren't on the top. You definitely don't want to use the Boxster heads anyway.

I imagine what they're talking about is the extended intake plenum from the 911 engine. It is noticeably taller than the Boxster's intake. I believe the intake piping is also larger on the 911, at least I know that the MAF section is. Using the 911 intake can be done, but the engine needs to be lowered and the cover over the engine might still need to be modified. Check with Tholyoak over on Renntech, he's done a tutorial on how to do the 3.4 conversion and I believe has since gone to an x51.

The ECU needs to know which intake is on the car. If you end up with the Boxster intake but the ECU think's it's the 911 intake, the readings from the MAF will be off and you'll never get the car to run right.

This is what my mechanic doing the instal said:
Lewis,

I’m sure the engine is NOT an X51. The X51 engines have an aluminum intake and this engine does not. The other issue with the intake is the overall height.

Do all X51 engines have a aluminum intake? I know they bumped up the HP on newer 2005 engines so maybe only those have it?

Thanks for the info Blue2000s!

Don't the 4S models use 3.8L engines, or was that not the case in 2004? I would love to slip a 3.6L into my Boxster, then see if it would be possible for me to keep out of trouble.....

The 996 S models like this one still had the 3.6L, but the newer 997 S models had the 3.8L.
