Tire thread? I don't think there has been one yet...

Sorry to start another tire thread, but I think I have a somewhat unique question. My car currently runs Pilot Sport regulars on all 4 corners, the front ones are fine and I think have plenty of life on them. The rear ones are done-zo though.

I just need new rear tires, so would it cause any balancing problems if the front ran regular Pilot Sports and the rear had PS2s?

I plan on doing some A-X or DE events once the weather gets a bit better...

thanks!

Popular recommendation is to change all 4, even if the fronts still have wear. This is of course expensive. Other popular recommendation is never have mixed sets.

Your question is actually a common issue, the rears on our cars tend to wear measurably quicker than the fronts. Leaving you with the quandary of replacing all four tires or just the rear two with the same model already on there.

I have discovered I really like the PS2's, they suit my driving conditions and driving style for street and autocross. Plus I live in FL so I can run them year round. If I lived in the now belt i would have two sets of wheels and tires.

The grip level between the Pilot Spots and the Pilot Sport PS2's is significant (I have run on both models), I personally would not recommend mixing tire models for daily use.

thanks for the info guys! I think that my front tires have enough tread in them to last the life of a new set of rears so hopefully when i change tires again i can change all 4 to PS2.
