hi ,
just after some ideas as to why usualy after an nice steady drive when i open it up i get a hesitation around 6k revs a puff of smoke out of the back.
once it has done this i can take it right the way up the rev range without any more hesitation and smoke, until i cruise for a while then the problem returns.

Any check engine light?

Either way, try unpluging the MAF and go for a drive and see if the hesitation is still there, if not then you need a new MAF. Sometimes when the MAF goes bad, itll tell the DME that its inhaling more air than it actually is to it'll push more feul to match that amount of air and the black smoke is the flood of feul burning off.
