Changes between '98 and 2003 Boxster

Hi folks, I had a '98 Boxster which I really loved, but it kept breaking down, spending more time in the shop than on the road. After 3 years I sold it back to the dealer (I couldn't in good faith sell it to another person.) Anyway, I think it's time to try again. Any thoughts on improvements made, or maybe mine was a one off problem car?

I would have to say you definitely had very bad luck with your first car. The fact that you're considering a new one leads me to think you should give it another try!

I've had no issues at all with my '01 2.7 over 11.5K miles, and I think that is fairly typical of the current quality manufacture.

You'll find the '03 is a significant step up from your '98. 25 more horsepower (or 60 with the S!), a glass rear window, better sound, a glovebox, etc. await you. (I'm somewhat envious because I really like the improvements this year!)

Check it out at the dealer and let us know what you think!

I tend to believe you had a somwhat abnormal car as it seems most Boxsters tend to stay out of the shop. This is actually one of the main reasons I purchase one. My '01 has been close to perfect and I truely love the car!!!

I am glad yuo are still a Porsche person and am considreing another Boxster. Iagree the '03 has some significant improvements -- From my perspective, the glass rear window might be the best. Although hp is hp, I am not too concerned with few additional ponies.

Please keep us posted on your decision.

Thanks for your input guys. I got a chance to look at the '03 and it sure is a
beauty. I love the glass window. Glad to hear mechanical problems seem to be rare. I'm going to give it another try! Now, to S or not to S?

I have owned both and both are beautyful machines. however, the S in my opnion is a much funner car especially with it stopping power.

I purchased a base Boxster in mid-2001. I drove the S, and frankly, I could see $9000 worth of additional performance. A bit more hp does result in a bit faster car, but for daily driving, whioch I use my care for, I did not see that much improvements.

Both cars are awsome!!!

Thanks for your input folks, on Friday I ordered a dark grey S which should arrive in March! I can't wait!
