Bose Bass Box

I'm interested in finding one of the Bose Base Box rear deck speakers to add to my 2000 Boxster but I've had little luck finding one or even getting many hits on Google searches about them. Does anyone know a part number, official name or anything else I can use to search for one of these?

I have one currently in my Boxster S (986) that I will be removing shortly as I'm selling the Boxster and getting 996 C4S or a 996 Turbo.

Thing is, I modified it to house 2 x 6x9 kenwood compact subs as the Bose subs were awful. I am going to sell the Bose as is complete with the amplifier that drives the subs and the wiring - the amp comes with a frequency control that allows you to fine tune the bass that can sit in the arm rest compartment. Actually sits in there perfectly.

I can send pics if you're interested but it won't be taken out for a month or so yet.

I'm looking for about £450 all in for the unit\amp and wiring.

Cheers,
Paul.

CA Box.

What part of CA are you in?

Paul, you do realize that 450 pounds is something like 12,000 US dollars, right? :ah:

Paul,
Randall has a point on the price. I think your setup is a good idea with the 6x9's but I was hoping for a used one somewhere for a lower price. Thanks for the response, though.

TriGem,
I'm in Santa Clara (Bay area).

450 pounds = $697.50 U.S. @ today's exchange rate.

I priced it like that as it cost me considerably more (the unit itself was £365, the amp & woofers were £200+) - it's all hooked up with quick release connectors so it can be easily unclipped for servicing etc.

I made a new base from MDF and soundproofed with dynamat (the modified\cut original plastic base rattled a lot when turned up) and this can be used with any aftermarket stereo. The bose config has a weird wiring system - this just connects to a pre out. The amp can however be hooked up from a speaker R/L line too - I just prefer to use the pre out control from my head unit.

They do pop up on ebay every now and then but never seen one go REALLY cheap, but no worries and good luck in finding one.

Paul.

CA Box,

I picked up the Bose Subwoofer enclosure for $250 off of a fellow from 6speed. Check the forums constantly and also ebay. They are hard to find but well worth it once installed properly.

If your ever in the LA area your more than welcome to have a listen to mine.

A few words of advise before you spend some money here:

The Bose subwoofer box has some "unusual" wiring, so you will need
a) either the original Bose amp
b) open the box and re-wire the whole thing (and at this point you can also swap the crappy Bose subwoofers with some good speakers)
c) do it like TriGem2k and invest A LOT of money and re-do the whole headunit/amp/speaker system of your box

But be advised "out of the box" the Bose box will NOT work and even potentially fry your amp!!!

I bought a used Bose box, did the needed mods to hook it to a 6-channel (M490 ?) amp from a 996 and IT SOUNDS LIKE CRAP !!!!

It's currently #1 on my "most useless mods on my Boxster" list ;)
