Cayene Question
 

Guys,
What do you know about the reliability of the Cayene? Does it have IMS, RMS or slipped sleeve issues like the 986? I know the Cayene is based on the VW Tourag, but how does it handle and what is the maintenance like?

Just traded in 04 Cayenne S with 60k miles on it... 03/04 Cayenne's had "bugs'... read the Cayenne boards on Roadfly...

The engines were solid as were the handling... eats tires.. brakes at 30k... 2200 to replace... some electrical issues...

05 and up seem to be better. Traded mine for the BMW X5 3.0... gas mileage vs. the S (not a fair comparison) 15 vs. 22... The CS will kick the a$$ off BMW 0-60... But the new CS's did not have Blue tooth, IPOD, Sat radio combo's... all the things you have in your AVIC (which I have in my box s too). have 22k on the BMW tires look new and it runs flawlessly

If I were to buy used (and didn't mind the gas mileage) I'd get an 05... w/o the nav and install another AVIC D3...

i haven't driven the cayenne, but i've got the "new" MDX. that thing kicks a$$. 300hp, aWD, loaded up w/options. not too $$ compared to the BMW and porsche.

i figure i don't have to have the fastest/best handling family car.... try one out before you dump $$ on those other cars.. just a suggestion

Is the Cayene AWD based on the Carerra 4S.

How does the Cayene handle in the snow???

My 2004 had lots of bugs in it straight off the lot. It was a furstrating first 6 months going back and forth to the dealership to get things sorted out. However, once they all got sorted (nothing major) it's been a pretty flawless vehicle.

I find the Cayenne's to be pretty amazing vehicles. They handle as well as nearly any sports sedan out there and have excellent acceleration in the V8 models (even the newer V6's will scoot pretty well) and they have massive towing capacity for a smallish SUV.

They do really well in the snow provided you have a descent tire on them.....that's really the key to any snow stuff....tires. Put summer tires on them and they won't do squat even with the 4wd.

Sounds like the 2005+ models are the best.
