Piloti DTMs for under $40 !
 

A great price on Piloti DTMs from the Sportsmans Guide - $29.97 ! Normally $110-$125 this is a great mid-height driving shoe. I have owned a pair of DTMs for the past 10 yrs. and they're great. Reinforced right shoe for Heel & Toeing, great for track, de, ax, or just driving. For under $40, this is certainly the best driving shoe deal I've seen.

Nomex lined, on the hottest of days, they can get a little toasty on asphalt, but anything under 90+ degrees, and they're fine. Most comfortable pair of shoes I own, and I own a LOT of shoes.

With S/H, you're in for just under $40, and only 1 color is available - LeMans Blue / Gray / Black, a pretty nice combo, not as wild as Blu/Yellow.

They also have the low-rise Spyder SV on sale for $39.97 in a less appealing Black / Red / Yellow color combo (IMHO). This shoe is not Nomex lined, but still a nice shoe.

At this price they won't last too long. I just snatched up a replacement pair as I'm 5 yrs. into my 2nd pair now. My size was backordered 2 weeks, but at this price, I'm OK with that (not charged until they restock). A friend also got a pair, and his size was in stock.

Thanks for sharing man! They list the regular price on their website as $75 for this shoe. Doing a quick search on the Internet though I couldn't find the Piloti DTM for less than $110. That's a pretty good deal then! I bought myself a pair for autocross.

Yea...except for the sling-backs, bald head and skin lesions, you nailed me..!! LOL :D

They only come in men's sizes and my shoe size translated to men's is 4.5. Their smallest is 8.

are these pretty "true to size"?
ive never owned a pair of pilotis but:
1. they look cool as hell
2. i plan to start AXing soon

i wear a 12 in most shoes, would a 12 fit fine?

Those aren't skin lesions, they're love blisters.

I have only owned the DTMs and Monacos and these fit very true. I am a 1/2 size and found you can go up 1/2, but not down 1/2.

Thanks for the heads up; just ordered the "red" ones that were in stock in my size. I just got my Boxster but noticed you have to have thinner shoes for the most effective driving experience, esp with my size 12 feet. :) Red shoes are pretty bright and will match my red car, but I can change to sandals pretty quickly as I walk around town. I already have a pair of the Spyder SV Driver Shoes (in gry/bk/ylw) and the fit seems true to US size. Very light and very comfy shoes.

Good timing. I was just thinking I need a pair of driving shoes as I was test driving a 987 and M Roadster last week, without wearing out my Simpsons.

I second they fit true to size...I ordered another pair just because I can never have enough pairs of Pilotis!

A buddy of mine said, "Don't get Pilotis. Get a real pair of racing shoes." I never asked what he meant by that.

Well, there are Racing shoes and Driving shoes. Most of what Piloti sells fall into the Driving shoe category.

But, the DTM is an SFI-certified, Nomex lined, fire-resistant Racing shoe just like those from Simpson, Sparco, Oakley, Alpinestars, etc.

SFI, originally run by SEMA, is now an independent safety foundation similar to the Snell Foundation and deals primarily with driver apparel - shoes, gloves, firesuits, etc. Many race sanctioning bodies adopt SFI specs and standards into their rules such as: ARAC, ALMS, IHRA, NASCAR, IRL, NHRA, SCCA, WKA.

True racing shoes are purpose built just for racing. They generally do not wear well when used for walking around as one poster mentioned. Nor are they really comfortable, especially when compared to Pilotis for anything but driving.

Despite the name, Pilotis are American designed shoes. The founder spent years working for Adidas, Reebok and K-Swiss designing athletic shoes. He broke away and founded Piloti to produce both Racing and Driving shoes. Enthusiasts who don't want a pure Racing shoe (often $250+) like Pilotis because they are more versatile and less expensive.

But, your buddy's a little confused because Pilotis are worn by several top drivers in many leagues such as Robbie Gordon (NASCAR), Scott Pruet (IRL, CHAMP) and Colin McRae, who won the World Rally Championship and died last year. Go to any DE, AX or Track day and you'll see quite a few Piloti shod drivers.

It's really a matter of preference (maybe a little ego), and possibly that those who've not worn Pilotis just don't get how good they are.
