Strange noise when I shift from 1st to 2nd...

Recently I have noticed a loud thumping noise coming from the center of the car underneath, right after I shift and put the car into 2nd gear. It’s not my clutch, because it’s brand new, only a few months old. And it only seems to do it when the car is first started. After driving around for a while and I reach normal engine temperature, the noise stops. It’s only when I go from 1st to 2nd. And only when the car is cold. Is this some sort of transmission problem? It sounds like a loud thump. I can baby it if I release the clutch really incredibly slow it doesn’t do it at all. Motor Mounts perhaps? Or is this normal until the car warms up and trans fluid is circulating? My car has 71k on it. I don’t ever remember it doing this before. But I could have been shifting aggressively. Anyone have any ideas?

you know what, mine does the same when cold...almost as if the gears are grinding. is that what you're experiencing also ?

It sounds like a torn front engine mount.

My engine thunked around a bit between gear shifts when I first picked it up.
After the mount was changed, the thunking went away.

If you know what engine motions you're looking for, you can remove the engine bay top cover, and check the mount as you drive the car up and down your street.

BC.

front motor mount. buy the upgraded caymen replacement, there is a DIY somewhere on the net for this. You need a floor jack to support the motor and then its easy as pie.

I have the same problem, its like a loud thunk and i can downshift into 2nd unless i go up to first. It seems the higher rpm i shift the less the thunk...I just had a 3.6 put in with new motor mounts so i wonder if thats the issue...
