Countdown after driving

Hey guys,

Does anyone know what that count down timer in the console after you turned off the car means?

During cold start, after I put the key in, it counts down from 4 seconds.

But sometimes after a drive, I turn the car off and its counting down from 30 second or even 10 minutes.

Should I wait for it to completely 0 before starting the car again?

Makes me kinda nervous. LOL.

It is your engine oil level check. Think electronic dipstick. The timer has nothing to do with when you can start the car again, it is the next time that an accurate oil level can be measured.

After driving the car hard, it may take 10 minutes for all the oil to settle so an accurate read can be made, and the car knows this. After a long stop, it defaults to 5 seconds as the oil is completely settled and an accurate reading can be made immediately.

I leave mine for 5 seconds first thing in the morning to keep an eye on the level, and for the rest of the day I just start it without waiting for the reading.

All of this is in the manual, so I would advise reading it from cover to cover and you may be surprised what else you learn.
