Ha! And now the Dodge Viper ACR smokes the GTR and the ZR1 (not Z06, but ZR1).

The Viper was always a car I loved to see drive past me, or a car I would love to rent. I would never want to own one though, not when I could pay a bit more and get an AM V8.

All in all, I'm not too shocked to see it go, the Detroit manufacturers are really suffering right now.

I have always liked the Viper and what it stood for, pure, somewhat unrefined, in-your-face, brute force.

There isn't one ounce of subtlety in the whole car... and that was always the point.

If the parent co. does sell it off, I hope the new owners will keep it on that course.

On a broader note, given the state of the auto biz, brand consolidations or deletions could happen. Dodge trucks are their bread and butter, much of the rest is overlap with Chrysler.
I wonder about GM and the Buick line as well. Also GMC is a duplicate, but they have a established base. Be interesting to watch how it unfolds...

Side note - went in the Pontiac site recently, couldn't find the "Upcoming" Solstice coupe.

I have a couple good friends that have Vipers... they are members of clubs and AX them regularly... I have not talked to them yet but I bet they would be pretty upset at this news. They are Mopar guys to the bone. One of them even works at Chrysler in Belvidere.
Speaking of owning one... NEVER. Those things are incredibly dangerous. I about spun it off the road one time in 3rd gear... yes 3rd gear, when I punched it. Crazy. I got out of it and told my wife to NEVER let me even think about getting one of those (Not that I could afford one anyway... well one newer that 10yrs:)
