Relocating A/C unit to center console

I'm interested in relocating the a/c display to the center console area (behind the power window switches, in place of the ash tray, and blank rear vents). I can dremel the area out, but any idea how hard it would be to extend the wires?

I will be putting the Avic D3 in place of the factory radio, and will need both spaces. Unfortunately, I also like the extra space added by GT3 center console delete kit. Any ideas?

don't actually know how deep the climate control unit is, but the console isn't very deep (maybe 5 inches). You may not have the space for it, and it may be kinda awkward.... i dunno if you can have your cake and eat it too

I would suggest putting it in the lower space, and not doing the GT3 delete. I do not think you can make it fit where the ashtray is, due to depth, not to mention the fact that you'd have to create a whole new harness to extend the wiring to it. Seems more PITA than the benefits are worth.

Where the ash tray is??? How do you think it could possibly fit in that small of space?

Heh, no. I would remove (using a dremel) the rear dummy window switches. It will fit in length and width, if I remove these, but as others have pointed out, probably not enough depth. I will take a look at it when I pull everything out for the install, but I think I will have to put the center console back in.

I've had my entire console pulled apart whilst moving components around from top to bottom. I also replaced the ash tray with the non-smokers tray. It would be a far fetch to fit the a/c unit in there precisely because of the depth issue.

I agree that I dont think the depth would work. The wiring would be a nightmare and you would essentially be butchering up a Porsche. Reloacating the units and adding a D3 is relatively easy and is reversible but trying to throw the climate contorls to the center console area would just look weird (in my opinion).
