I want the finders fee.

When I first saw it on ebay 1 1/2 years the LCD display was being sold only for Audi. I asked the seller if it would work on a 996/986 because we use an Audi display.

Then the seller changed the listing to include the Boxster.

This is the company. http://www.modulemaster.com/en/index.php

I'm sure we can work it out...

Just checked modulemasters site through the link TP put up and I found a small discrepancy.

On the ebay page, they state the LCD replacement has a " NEW DESIGN WITH COMPLETE LIFETIME WARRANTY ". But, on the mm website they say it has a five year warranty - shorter lifetime...lol.

I'm sure it's an unintentional snafu, just like the exacto knife reference in the instructions, but to be safe, you may want to print a copy of your ebay receipt page and tuck it away just in case.

It still may not guarantee you a lifetime warranty (I mean who's gonna sue for a $50 part years later if they say NO?), but at least you'll have a leg to stand on.

Wow... this is some great info! I just ordered mine from eBay... I'll report back how the install goes!

gregdacat 09-06-2008 11:20 AM

Now What!

My display had two missing bars for the fan speed display and the giant half moon on the right hand side. I bought the replacement on ebay, read the directions and prepared to replace that bad boy.

Well, when I popped the cover off the old display to my horror I learned that someone else had tried this before because the two phillips head screws that hold the display unit in place were completely stripped out. AAAAHHHHH!

How do I get them out? Once I do what do I replace them with? (I know, never end a sentence with a preposition, yada yada)

Thanks in advance

Make sure you have enough light when you are removing the climate control unit. The instructions state "philips head screws", but that is incorrect. I was trying to do the project in my dim-lit garage with the top up, and thought that my screws were stripped out too. I was originally trying to use a philips head screw driver per the instructions, but when the screwdriver was just spinning in the screw-head, I eventually went to get a flashlight. To my surprise, the screws were torx heads. Make sure you are using the correct screw driver.

Other than that, the install went great! The dealership quoted me $550 to put in a new climate control unit. I'd say my $60 was very well spent!

I do have one question for those of you that have done this install. Does ModuleMaster only make these displays in the semi-gloss finish? I was hoping it would be closer to the mat finish to match the radio display, but I figure I can't be too picky for $60.

Thanks for the advise dja1980! I went to Sears and bought a set of drill bits called "Strip out." I would have really screwed things up. (No pun intended) I'll give the TORX screw driver a try.

I ordered one also

My display went out last week, glad I looked here before trying to find a used one.

Thanks again guys.

I will be changing out my Climate Control display tomorrow (or the next day). The instructions call to "gently" pry out the fascia trim panel.

Any tricks or recommendations before I gouge up my dash with a screw driver while cracking / breaking the plastic trim? The rest of the job looks pretty straight forward.

clickman 04-21-2009 04:10 PM

I just put my fingers under the bottom end and pull!

vath2001 04-22-2009 02:39 AM

Did it last night. I pried from the top and the face plate popped right off.
Total time from opening up the package to final testing was about 1 hour.

Now I can tell if my AC is on or not.

Better late than never (although never is better)

I know this is a very old thread, but I have just experienced this LCD issue on the climate control system of my 2000 Boxster. In looking through the thread, the links to the eBay site to purchase the kits are no longer valid. A search of eBay didn't find anything but complete climate control units. Any thoughts on where one might get the repair kit?

I am going to order me one for Christmas :D . I will keep you all posted on how it works out.

promark420 01-18-2012 02:25 PM

I love this forum! I was taking my phone out of the cigarette holder when it slipped out of my hand, hit the gear shift and then hit the LCD diplay. The corner must have hit it just right because now I see a shattered LCD display. Now I know I won't have to pay Porsche parts price!

promark420 02-22-2012 08:34 AM

Installed it this past weekend. Good instructions, good results, but I do mis seeing Manuell on the display. Took about 40 minutes and I'm not the world's fastest wrencher.

promark,

I just ordered mine today. How did the install go for you? Anything you would do differently? I will be doing mine next week. Stay tuned.
