Boxster replacement engines

On my 1999 Boxster 5 speed ,the engine was replaced at 15K miles in 2001 .Did porsche replace these engines with 2.5 liter engines or 2.7 liter engines? Does anyone know? Or is there a list of engine serial numbers published. The car now has 71K on it and it is truly the most enjoyable car I have ever driven .

If the dealer did it, you have a 2.5l with all the current upgrades as of 2001. Would be nice if Porsche hooked people up with larger displacement engines, but emmissions laws would prevent that.

The 2.5 engines are not e-gas as the 2.7 and 3.2 motors are.

Doing that swap would necessitate changing the DME (Motronic 5.2 vs 7.2), the Fuel Tank and system (return vs non-return) and the accelerator and throttle control system (non-e-gas vs e-gas). All in, you looking at another $10k on top of the motor itself. No dealer (or PCNA) are going to pick that up gratis.
