Jeph, wish I could help you, but I cannot think of anything negative to say about that little booger.

Top Gear likes the Boxster better! And so do I!

Never driven one, but I would expect handling to still be excellent even though its no boxster. That M would totally kill a box in a straight line too. The only issue I see w/ the car is that IMO its a tad ugly. If prices were equal, I would take an M roadster over a boxster
Also, you'll be giving up on gas mileage. I can't comment well on expected maintenance costs, but my dad's 330 has had a bunch of small things but no major issues. It is no lexus and I would expect M models cost a lot more than regular BMWs to keep up.

I never liked the looks of the z4 ragtop but I have to say, the coupe looks really really great to me.
I have driven the M3 couple and thought it was indeed, quite fast. Handled just fine too.
Tough call.
Either way, you win.

Beautiful car. My neighbor has one, and I do often admire it.
Only thing I gotta say is, personally I couldn't give up the organic handling of the Boxster. Or the song of the flat 6.

i like the way it looks but to be honest after awhile, it looks so busy..too many lines and curves and the interior has too many buttons to play with
but i know for sure that it's a head turner and I'm with bruce...the M Coupe is way better looking than the Z4 Ragtop

My buddy bought a Z4 coupe for his wife. Not the M, but I rode in it and the interior was nice.
Kinda cramped though and the rear hatch area seems about as useful as one of the trunks on a boxster.
Have you considered keeping what you have and saving that extra cash for retirement or paying off any excess debt you may have?
Just a thought from an older guy who wishes he'd started saving far younger in life to be that much closer to retirement (or doing something more fun with my days instead of coming into the office).

I did the M Driving School a little over a year ago and we spent about 1/2 the day in those cars. Lot's of fun. The only drawback I see is they are a bit cramped and dark inside. Love that big, fat steering wheel.

The M Coupe is hard to fault. IMO, it comes down to whether you're a "Porsche guy" or a "BMW guy" - or in my case, both! So, that's my solution - buy both!

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I'm really leaning towards getting this car! The biggest obstacle will be bringing myself to sell my car first.
Blkboxster, this new-car-itis was brought forth by finding a 335i Coupe that I wanted -similar to you. But I recall from a test drive last year that it was too soft for me compared to the Boxster. But this M I hear is pretty firm.
Looks like I need to do a test drive.

After the Boxster S the BMW Z4 M Roadster is my fav. car, so I'd imagine the Coupe would be just as fun although you lose the ragtop which is a deal breaker for me.
I can't tell you how many times I thought of buying a Z4 M Roadster. I must of test driven that car at least 5 times by now in less than 1 year LOL
In the end the steering of the Boxster S is just too natural and full of feel compared to the BMW's, and that sound coming from behind my ears at 7000RPMs....
What I DO love about the Z4M is the low driving position, great short-throw shifter that your right wrist naturally falls on and that amazing high-reving engine....80000RPMs....*drool*
Plus it transitions very quickly, steering response is great.
I only wish the steering has a tad more feel. It does have good weight to it, but it's not as communicative as the Porsche.
Tough call, but I say you should buy it, life is too short, we need to experience different cars!

Here's the break-down if I were to choose between them.
Boxster/Cayman S
- Flat-6
- Mid-engine
M Coupe
- Semi-rare car
- 50 more hp
So yes, get the M coupe if you want to be cool, but Boxster/Cayman is designed for true driving enthusiasts.

"CUTE" Ha!
I like the Cayman, but I think the M is a better value. It will have warranty and maintenance paid for for a little while. Can you get a Cayman S for $37k yet?
I've always wanted to try a BMW and I never thought I could afford an M that's only a year or 2 old. Perhaps I will try a Cayman after the M?
