MAF Question
Hello...
The local dealer told me I needed a MAF after my CEL came on. I changed the MAF myself then disconnected the battery for 30 mins. Next day, I get the CEL again. Do I need the dealer to clear the codes, or do I have other problems? I don't know what the codes were originally. TIA Mike BTW...2000 Boxster S, 62000 km. |
you have other problems. you can reset the CEL by unplugging the battery just as you did. nothing special about a dealer reset. get the codes dumped and post them. places like autozone or pep boys will tell you the codes for free.

You need to read the codes. Maybe it's your MAF, maybe not. OBD II readers aren't terrible expensive, and you can find them at Sears, Wal-mart, online, etc. $80-100 is about average. If you don't want to get your own, most Advance/Auto Zone chain type shops will read it for you and clear the codes for free. Post the codes and we'll let you know just what's up with your car.

Thanks for the responses...
I have code P0134. Does this mean replacing all 4 oxygen sensors? Those things are expensive!! Cheers |
MAF and sensors just replaced
My CEL came on, checked at Autozone, indicated bad MAF so I cleaned the MAF. CEL was off for about a month. Came on again, took it to dealer for better diagnostic. Told me the MAF was indeed bad, and I had one bad o2 sensor. Both replaced under warranty (I have an 02 base model, 65K miles- and a wicked good warranty).
2 weeks later CEL back on again, this time dealer read it as bad oil separator which is being repaired tomorrow. I am curious if the oil separator might have been an emerging issue, causing the MAF or o2 sensor to go bad? From what I know, the o2 sensors can go bad one at a time. If you are doing the DIY, maybe do them all since you are already in there? I am just thankful to have this work covered under warranty- wish you luck. |
Hi, Taken from the Porsche manual table - DME ME 7.2 DTCs
P0134 - FAULT TYPE = Precatalyst oxygen sensor, cyl. 1 - 3 Explanation = Signal implausible / Open circuit / no signal Beware of dealers they tend to change the easiest and most expensive parts first  Check to see if all the wires connected to the sensors are fine, then replace the sensor one at a time to pin point where the problem was. Good luck  |
Hi, If you end up needing sensors this place has all the different models to chose from, but i don't know about the prices.
