Thanks for the thumbs up Brucelee, 0W40 right? Or is it 5W40? I knew AMSOIL was good stuff but just didn't know the rating.

Lots of conjecture, belief, anectodal, confirmed, advice! As others have said, there are lots of choices out there...
Use ANY of the recommended brands - and change them at 7500-10,000 mi. intervals (w/ filter), and you'll NEVER have an Oil Brand related issue !!!!
If you're RED State - go with Moibil 1...
If you're Blue State - choose RedLine, Royal Purple, Amzoil, etc...
And, you'll NEVER have a problem related to Oil Type !!!

I THINK they make both but I am not sure. The oil formulations change pretty frequently.

I did see a couple of years ago that the Amsoil Euro was approved by Mercedes as MB released a TSB announcing it. I guess Amsoil spent the money to have MB approve it. I don't know how much Group 4 (PAO) is in it though - never checked their MSDS.

paul....

How about Mobil1 5W-50? Not in approved list, but seems to make sense in NV heat?

I would be fine using that oil in the desert.

This is the only Porsche approved 5W50 oil right now. But, you can't buy it in the USA. Canada has it and in Europe.

Thanks NickCats for the info!
I recently had my oil changed at Mark Motors in Ottawa and saw the same Elf Exc 5w40 and was a little concerned as the most up to date "Porsche Approved" oil list that I had found off of google did not include Elf.
My worries have been assuaged.
Cheers.
