Transmission Fluid Change
Hi guys, is a transmission fluid change an easy DIY job? I just got an estimate from the shop and they are quoting me $420 for a Transmission Service.
I have changed my own brake pads and oil before on the Boxster, so is a transmission fluid change much more difficult than either of those? |

Much less than you were quoted, incl. buying the fluid pump (which is the only one I'd use - holds all the ATF at once), 17mm Hex Bit, Sealant, Gasket and Filter (s/b changed every 45k mi.). I'd definitely say it's a pretty easy, though time consuming DIY - I'd rate it a 3/10. PM me if you have any questions |
Got rid of my replies when I saw Lil Bastard's DIY - that's the way to go.

Std Transmission
Ok, so has anyone changed the fluid on a Std transmission?
I did this once on my 1991 300ZX and it was simple. There is a drain plug on the bottom and a fill plug on the top. the only trick was creating a pump like device to push the fluid into the transmission fill plug. I created a device with 2 hoses one that hooks to a compressor (low PSI) which goes into the bottle and another hose that comes out of the bottle into the transmission. -Steve |
