Are the headlights automatic?
Just got an '04 Boxster S. It seems like I need to turn the headlights on and off myself. Is this possible? I haven't needed to do this in a car for a decade! I would expect that when it's dark they come on. When it's light, they go off.
Can you confirm? Is there something to retrofit automatic on/off? |
The headlights on the Boxster are not automatic.
There are aftermatket kits out there you can install if you want. I agree that it's a nice feature, we have it in the jag and it's nice not to have to think of it. But, it's not that big a deal to me that I'd install the aftermarket kit. |
Sorry to break it to you... you have to turn that switch yourself.
Were your previous cars GMs? They like to do that. |
I have a 2008 and the headlights are not automatic. I was so used to it in my Lexus that it was an adjustment, but I've gotten the hang of it now.

Can be automatic
I have a 2008 with Bi-Xenon and had the dealer program it so that they come on when you turn on the car. You still 'have to' turn the switch at night to have the dash lights come on.

For the cars brought to Canada, they need the daytime running lights. Most have the headlights on all the time. You need to turn the switch to get the interior dash lights to come on.
