Over rev'ed engine again ... how bad is it?
Hey I love my new Boxster, but I find that it pulls so great at high revs I am often over reving the engine.
Is it timming retardation that kick in durning over rev protection? It seems that once, spark ignition stopped completely. How much damage (hopefully non) is happing to my engine in these instances. Kick butt car, I've perfected the four wheel drifting slide around just about any curve! |
Revs
From what I know, and I am relatively new to the Boxster world myself (5 months almost), the Boxster engine has a rev limiter. The OBC records that, I wouldn't go past redline too often if you can avoid it.
It's there for a purpose, namely to keep your engine from blowing up. That is what I have gathered from this subject in other forums where this was talked about. |
Basically it has a rev limiter (BoxsterS @7200rpm) and does so (I was told) by limiting / shutting down the fuel.
I find the rev-limiter in a BoxsterS rather restrictive and I don't like how it works. The car really likes to rev and the rev limiter kicks in rather smoothly. I don't think you are able to really do any damage with th rev limiter in tact. Mark. |
Big brother is watching. Hope this pic with 34k over revs works. Range 1 does not hurt the car, but range 2 can. Jeff

I have heard pappa Porsche will check the # of over-revs on a general maintenance call (warranty work also). Have also heard warranty can be in jeopardy if too many over revs.
