Dash Gauge Lights

My dash gauge lights remain on after removing the key from the ignition switch. I replaced the electrical part of the ignition switch but still happens. If I hit the door lock the gauge lights go out. Also, if the gauge lights are on and I unplug the ignition switch the gauge lights remain on. Is this a mechanical ignition switch problem or something else?

Sounds normal to me.

Normal to me also. If I don't hit the lock button on the remote, the lights eventually go out.

The engineers who wrote the ECU software had too much time on their hands or perhaps this was done because they could. Germans are a peculiar breed, I should know.

Like my father always says, "you can always tell a German, but you can't tell hiim much"

so kurt, the only way your dash/digitial speedometer/clock etc goes out is if you do not hit the lock on the remote?

mine stays on, for a long time after i lock up the car.
