exhaust tips - cleaning
hello, anyone have suggestions on how best to clean the dual exhaust tips on a boxster s? they are a little discoloured and would like to have them shine.
thanks, rosso |
"Never Dull" worked for me.

000 grade steel wool.
its soooo soft, it doesnt deserve the name steel wool. you can clean anything with this stuff, chrome and all...no scratches whatsoever! |
Best thing I've found are those Mr. Clean Magic Eraser Pads. They cut through the baked on Oil and crud but are soft enough to keep from scratching the Chrome/SS

Not sure if you have the optional Chrome tip or stocker - Chrome cleans easily, especially when waxed, so you must have the stocker.
Any metal polish will work and you can wax them afterwards to help. But if you really want something nice get the Chrome one - cleans up with a damp rag. |
Get some "Blue Magic". This stuff not only works wonders on the exhaust tips, but you can use it to polish your plastic rear window (mixed with some 3M hand glaze) and polish out minor paint sratches (again, mixed with the 3M).
This was highly recommended by our chief concours member and National PCA judge/winner. |

btw, i put some wheelwax on it now, so its shiny like that pretty much all the time, rain or not hehe http://i32.tinypic.com/dbjvye.jpg |
Try some "Bar Keepers Friend".. you can find it at kitchen stores for cleaning high end pots and pans... It is great for cleaning tarnish off rims / exhausts etc without damaging the finish.... I thought my winter rims would need to be re-finished this spring, but a half hour with some bar keepers friend and some elbow grease they came up like new.

Marc,
is this some kinda solution, or spray bottle deal, or what? thx |
Its a powder, you put it on a damp sponge and it cleans just about anything.

awesome, thx man

Two big thumbs up to both of those recommendations. I don't have the chrome tip, still think the price on those are pretty crazy. Cleaned up the stock tip beautifully with the Bar Keepers Friend, then finished up with the Wheel Wax, looks great.
And the wheels of course shine now after the wax as well (duh), great stuff. |
