Air Bag Light
 

I got my Boxster out of storage last night after a long hard winter and I just took it for a little cruise. Needless to say, it felt great to be back in it. The car sat idle in heated storage for a full 6 months with the battery disconnected. When I started the car the air bag light on the dash is staying on. Any suggestions. Thanks in advance!

Likely to be an issue with the seat belt buckles. These contain some electrical contacts which can corrode, get dirty or simply fail.

Since wearing the seatbelt is an integral part of the SRS system, the airbag light signals whenever the engine is running and a seatbelt is unfastened (which it's interpreting the 'open' circuit to be).

Thank You very much for the advice. Are these contacts easy to get at to be cleaned to determine if that is the issue or am I better off having a diagnostic reading done to determine the fault? Thanks again!!

Several owners have had luck spraying the Seat Belt connectors with an electrical contact spray cleaner and then using compressed air to dry it out.

If that doesn't work, the seat belt connector need to be replaced.

Use the Forum SEARCH function under Seat Belt or Seat Belt connectors for further explanation and DIY - this issue has been dealt with many times before.

If you clean the contacts and it works, the airbag light will remain lit until a PST tool is hooked up to the OBC port and it's cleared.

And no, leaving the battery terminal off the car for 24 hours won't reset it (thought I'd tell you this before you asked).
