Question on the PSE on an '08

I had this installed on my "08 Boxster S today at a local Porsche specialty shop. The last steps of the instructions say to have the engine computer accessed and enable the sport exhaust. What I know now is that the bypass pipes are open when I have the sport button on.

My question: Does anyone know if the computer part is only to activate the feature that opens the bypass pipes more as the RPMs increase?

The reason I am asking is that I have to go to a dealer for that and really do not mind spending the extra money but if it is fully bypassed with the button on I like it like this and would probably skip the computer part.
Thanks,
Mike

I have the PSE on my '08 987S; however, it was ordered with it. But when I engage the Sport button, I can hear it kick-in, even at idle, so mine is not dependent on RPMs.

Thanks Bob Z. I thought I had read on this forum or Renntech that the bypass valves opened more as the throttle was increased or something like that.

PSE on 2008

I also ordered the PSE on my 2008 from the factory and it activates independent of rpm immediately on pressing the switch. Only the great sound is dependent on the rpm.

Let me rephrase my question.

I am feeling like I am all wet on this then. I am very impressed by the sound. I went for a pretty long ride today after it was installed and had no interest in turning the radio on. I think my wife even likes it but it is a nice feature to have the option to turn it off.

Let me rephrase my question: Does anyone know what having a Porsche tech complete the last steps of the instructions to tell the car's computer that this sport exhaust is installed does?

I think I got the answer to my question.

I spoke with the service rep at the dealership I had an appointment to do the last steps in the instructions to tell the car's computer the exhaust was installed and asked him what it would change. He called me back after talking with his mechanic and said the mechanic felt it was not necessary for me to come in as long as I had no error codes. Since they were going to charge me $130 for about 10 minutes work I have to believe it is unnecessary. This is not the dealership where I bought my car but it may be the one where I take my car for any warranty work.
