Good Deal on Tires

I just ordered some new shoes for the Box yesterday :

https://www.tiresavings.com/tireShop.php?action=findMan2&manufacturer=Nexen&tirename=N3000&season=

$386 for a complete set ( $456 delivered )

I have had these on my car for 20k miles now and have been very pleased with their performance as a daily driver, autocrosser, and at the Tail of the Dragon.

May be a good alternative to the $1000 PS2's

Nick

I'm going to take it that you didn't read reviews before buying.

The link Nick provided to tiresavings.com had lots of tires I hadn't heard of or seen at the usual places like Tire Rack. But I didn't see any reviews (either customer or professional) on that site. Did you find them somewhere else?

Are any, or some, of those lesser expensive tires worth even the little they're selling for? It would be nice if they provided a rating chart similar to the one on tire rack.

Bob

I have the Nexens on my track rims and will put them on my everyday when the $$$$$ Michelins are worn. Do a search on this forum for 'Nexen' and you will find some very positive reviews. I have no complaints, I love the price, and even played around with traction on a 'spirited' drive on some mountain twisties, in the rain. For autocross they aren't sticky, but I found lower tire pressure once they are hot helps.

I just replaced a set of N3000's on my car with Goodyear F1 GS-D3's.

Pro/Con on the Nexens:

Pro
* Cheap, really cheap
* Looks good
* Quiet
* Stay in balance (something cheap tires rarely do)

Con
* Average dry traction
* Average wet traction
* Poor wear, only 7K on the rears

They're so cheap that if you don't care about some loss in traction (Boxster's have plenty to start with) you can't go wrong. If you're looking for performance, look elsewhere. The GS-D3's are a better overall tire than the Pilots for me, and were about $50 a tire cheaper (about $275 each for 265/35-18's). Judging from wear on the set I have on my M3, they should be substantially better than the N3000's, I'm hoping to get 12K miles out of the rears.
