Multi-Modding

Hi,
I just finished installing three hack/mods simultaneously. I did the intermittent wipers, spoiler switch, and US spec cigarette lighter. It took about a hour and half, plus two hours to try and figure out how to remove the cigarette lighter! I also wired everything up to the lighter to get the headlight illumination. It all works great, and I got rid of two more dummy switches. The spoiler switch is just for fun, but the intermittent wipers are a nice feature, and so is the new cigarette lighter.

It was a fairly simple job. I removed a few trim pieces and slid the radio out, but besides that it was simply running some wire and plugging everything in. Just thought I'd share!

Ever tried to plug a radar detector into your cigarette lighter? A lot of US spec plugs will pop out of the shallower Euro spec cigarette lighter socket that we have in our Boxsters (not sure if this is true for all years). So some folks swap out that shallower socket for a deeper, US spec socket.

I've got a three socket add-on deal just hardwired into the car and mounted near the passenger seat as I plug in a radar detector, cell phone, and Sirius radio...

The earlier Boxster's came with the European spec cigarette lighter, which does fit US accessories as well, because it isn't as deep, and is wider. So I switched it out to the US spec one that's in later year Boxster's. Simply put, it fits my cell charger a lot better.

Is this the reason why my battery maintainer(connects via cig. lighter) doesn't get a reading sometimes until I wiggle it around?

interesting, i got a 98, and stuff plugged in there is fine, like my radar detector....and my car was built in Germany as well....

glad u can plug stuff in now :)
