Tire pressure
I've used three different tire pressure guages and get readings of 33, 35 and 40psi. Please recommend what are the best type of pressure guages to use for accurate measurements. thanks.

One question I would ask was did you measure them all at the same time under the same conditions?
If so, then yes, I could see your concern, especially with a 7psi difference. Like most things, gauges wear out over time. I have a Longacre brand unit I bought from a race shop (Pegasus?) a coulde of years ago. I have no idea how "precise" it is after several years, but even if its within 2-3lbs it can still be good. For regular street driving, I don't think I would worry too much. Can you "feel" the difference when driving? Do you notice unusual tire wear? Now, if you are competing/racing, than I would prefer to start out with an accurate guage. On the other hand, its all relative. if "36" feels low, put a few more in. If "36" feels high, then let out a bit. |
Tire pressure
Yes, I did measure the pressure at the same time with 3 different of guages on cold tires. I've put about 2000 miles on new tires so i don't know much about tread wear or handling at this point as this car is new for me. I use the car for road use only and want to ensure tire performance. I do think I'll adjust the pressure up and down as you suggest to become more aware of how the car handles at different tire pressures. I'll use the guage I think may be the most accurate. I do suspect that it will be driver preference that will indicate relative performance. thanks.
