$336 for a new top?????

Top on Ebay for Under $400

I saw this on Ebay and had to share. Has anyone seen one of these tops in person? I know the old saying "you get what you pay for" but for anyone needing a new top and is not planning on going with glass might want to investigate.

I just replaced my top with a Robbins top with Glass. It Rocks

So you replaced your plastic window top with a glass window top ? Any problems with the installation or the operation of the new top ? If you don't mind me asking, what did you pay for the new top including installation ? I'm seriously considering a new top with glass window myself. Thanks.

I ordered my top myself and had an independent Porsche specialist shop (TPWS in Austin) install it. I got my top from www.topsonline.com for around $700 which also included the defroster wiring kit. That is a retrofit glass window top with the A5 German Canvas for a 97-02 Boxster made by Robbins.(Porsche started making the top with glass in 03) The only other retro fit top with glass that I know of is made by GAHH and it will run you about $1000. GAHH is the arguably better quality but I gotta say the Robbins top impressed not only me but the guys at the shop too. Installation will run you anywhere from $450 to $700. It cost me $830 for install but I had to replace some parts. Installation isn't easy and it's said to take around 8-12 hours for the experienced hand.

The only negatives to the retro fit glass top is that the window is considerably smaller and has to be a little low for the window to fold properly. So it increases your blind spot. Might want to get some wide view side mirrors. The other negative is that it makes it a little tougher to get to the engine compartment. Since the glass is rigid you can't just push it in like you could with the plastic window when putting the car in service mode. But you couldn't pay me to go back to plastic. So far this is the best improvement I've made to the car. I never have to look at the hole in my plastic window again!

I haven't been able to put the top down yet. I need to leave it alone for a week after install so it stretches and shrinks to the frame. I'll let you know next week if there are any issues.

I've got a friend in the upholstery biz and assuming the guy cans sew, it boils down to the quality of the fabric. There are sort of 3 grades used for most tops, U.S., Japanese (hard to find) and German. You can probably guess the price and quality.

I think that guy has been selling those for at least a year. You might do well to check his feedback.

Regards, PK

glass top is the only way to go, IMO. its the best thing you could do to your boxster

I got mine and installed it myself, its not as hard as people think/say. You just have to have some patience...it took me about 6-7 hours, I'm not sure but it took most of the day but I'm glad i did the install myself to save some money.

Has anybody ordered one of these? Arnt the glass tops like $1000? This would be 1/3 the price. Savings of $700! Also to note he has 100% feedback and SEVERAL of them are from porsche boxster owners!
