Oil Tech Session
I coordinated an oil Tech Session today that focused mainly on air cooled Porsches' oil needs.
Interesting reading for those of you with older cars and another opinion on all things oil. Our main speaker was Charles Navarro, here's a link to his website. http://www.lnengineering.com/oil.html |
I have read Mr. Navarro's report (mine was dated 12/18/07) several times. Good stuff. Very technical.
One interesting note is that he runs a "green" (non synthetic) oil in his air cooled Porsche and changes the oil filter 1/2 way through the oil change interval. |
I asked him about my recent oil analysis and he asked me to email to him which I've done. I asked him for his opinion and recommendation.

I use Redline 20W-50 in my air cooled Harley.
The oil filter switch will extend the life of oil quite a bit, esp. if it is synthetic. It gets rid of some old dirty oil and improves filtering quality quite a bit. Truck drivers use super duper filters to add many miles to the synthetics they use. |
Charles responded with a request to have my oil tested for Total Acid Number and concluded his remarks with:
"the UOA looks excellent - you have one very healthy Boxster!" |
A good read. Thanks for the info! :)

yup, not surprised, most of that is what I've been hearing and relaying to people for a while now.
