I just did a search on GPS units and it looks like the Garmin 660 has the features that I would like and they are available for less than 300.00 at amazon.com. Have any folks used this unit and do you like it?

Ed, I have a Gramin and love it. That's a good price too:

Wow, that is a great price! The 660 is a newer, larger, better version of my 350 which I paid around $600 for a few years ago. I think you will like it, lot of nice features.

nuvi 660 rocks. You will love it. They have a few nick-knacks on the newer models but all in all, the 660 does what you need with stride.

Sounds like you're going to have a great trip. Have fun! Jon

As my signature says, I've driven mine on many long trips, most lasting 2 or 3 weeks. I do all the driving but usually limit it to 700 miles or less per day. I have done 2000 + miles in 2 days twice.

I've found my biggest issue to be tires. Twice out of 7 Parades I've had to buy rear tires while on the road. Since then I had my car realigned for less toe and less camber and tire wear has about stopped.

I suggest a $10 tire plug kit and a small 12V air compressor be added to your list.

I never take maps on my trips, just a primary and backup GPS.
