2004 tiptronic newbie needs help

Just brought home my first boxster.

She is a 2004 boxter s annivsersity edition.
Driving home I noticed when I was stopped the tiptronic downshifts #2 position and not the # 1 position. I do not have the owner's manual so wondering if anyone can help me.

While I have only limited experience with TIPS, it has been such that, you must manually put it in 1/L. Like most automatics these days, they tend to start in 2nd gear.

This is normal/standard. When you come to a stop after driving, such as being at a light the car will go into second gear. Note that when you first turn your car on and put it into D, it will start in 1st gear.

If you want to start in first gear, press the downshift button. The reason porsche does this 2nd gear start is to save gas and IMO there is no real need for 1st gear at all unless you are having some fun

Also know that you do not need to be in "M" manual mode to use the tiptronic shifters. Hit the shifters and you'll temporarily go into manual control for about 8 seconds while in "D".
