Headlight Envy?
 

I am just curious to see where you stand in this question. I am not in the progress of changing my front end (yet??) but thoguht I would throw it out there and see where you stand. So if you have time, please add your short comment on where you stand in this question.

• 997/987 Conversion (ala ...?)

Not sure why you wish to make the car something it isn't? If there were collision damage, I could see toying with my options, but not on a perfectly good, standard car. Sell it and buy what you desire, instead.

I understand your response, not exactly what I was looking for though. Some will have a stock car and some won't. that is the world we live in. I am curious to see which lighting options YOU would prefer. For ex, if your car was in a front end accident, would you go back to stock or. . . ? More along that line.

People modify their car all the time and that is nothing we can do to change, I did not say I was talking about my car, more along the line of everyones car.

I would do the 996 Turbo conversion. I thought about doing the same thing, I even bought the lights.

I looked at my car and thought I would be nuts to rip the thing apart. If I ever wreck it, it will happen. If I wreck the 996, I will do the same conversion with techart bumper.

I like the 997 conversion in theory, just minus the bumper. I think it is too busy/gaudy for the simple 986. The lights would be awesome though. A 987 conversion would be neat too.

I personally prefer them stock. I would perhaps upgrade the lighting if I didn't live in an area where there is enough ambient light to drive around without headlights at all, but I like the front end the way Porsche intended.

My vote is standard, but OEM Aerokit II standard, that is. I think the OEM aerokit front bumper and side skirt combo look great. Not too over the top, yet more aggressive than the stock look. As for changing the headlights, I personally wouldn't because I think the headlights already look fine as is.

Funny but I like my '02 the way it is bumper wise. I always admired the 550 and RSK cars and feel that the front on my car reflects this "retro" yet modern look. I understand that others want to upgrade to more "current" look and that is fine. Makes for interesting things to look at and talk about at gatherings. Every car I had I altered or customized in some way or another. Apart from adding Halogen de-amber headlights, clear side markers, '03 vent openings, painted bumperettes, clear third tailight and de badging it is stock and I really like the look. It is not unlike what you all have seen ad naseum on this and other sites. It suits me and that is that. What suits you is what you want to do. I think that a curved bumper is more fitting than a angular one but that is just me. Viva la differance!!!

I know, right? Why would you want to display some uniqueness or creativity? Why would you try to stray from the norm? Why would you want something that can't be purchased at a dealer? (I even read somewhere that some people paint their cars in colors that aren't available from the factory. Can you believe that?)

I guess jmatta prefers a more pragmatic approach when it comes to cars.

Anyway, I'm kinda biased and think the 996 headlights look superior. The 987 headlights positively don't work (on a 986). The lines are all wrong. They're sharper and more crisp/angular on the newer Boxsters. Our 986s are more smooth and flowy. I would rather have a newer bumper with the old headlights than one with a 987 conversion. (987 conversion would easily be the most expensive option.)

Grizzly has a 99-01 Carrera bumper with stock headlights on his car. I think it looks awesome. That's what I would recommend for an easy solution to look fresh new look. Throw on a silver Porsche crest and you're in business! I bet it would look pretty sharp with your rims... Plus this option would be less then $1k.

...looks FINE to me. His car is what made me want to put the '03 vents on my '02 (I should have them next week). His front bumper looks good and I marvel that he still is cheating death.....

To add into personlizing your car. My car is up for a larger change than most cars will be when it comes to paint. I saw the new GT3 RS and feel in love. Sure 997 lights are nice, but after all they are just lights.. Here is a prototype image of what my car will look like once done. I already sold my wheels and have not decided yet what to get. I had an option but can't decide. And I got these wheels for free so why not.

I do like the 996 GT3 front bumper. I also like the new 997 GT3 so its hard when it comes to a decision... I guess I could decide if they were side by side to compare.

Anyway, its your car do whatever you want, it is just a car and there are parts for it to make it 100% stock if again if thats what you want.

The real deal.. Who said copying is bad :cool:

I'm always for modding/customizing my car. My preference though is a subtle look that makes people have a double take and wonder what makes this car look so different than others. Making it too wild is not for me as I often will take my P car to business meetings. instead of my daily driver Lexus. Here is my lowered aerokit1

Looks nice, especially the lowering part. I am just afraid that the ride quality will be awful if I lower it. Any thoughts?

I understand what you mean by being to flashy. IMHO I don't see the orange to be too flashy. In fact, my colors as a designer are orange and grey, and the company I work for have Orange as our main color so I guess it will just boost the loyalty to my Job :D

Honestly I don't think the GT3 bumper looks good on a 986 at all. It makes the car look way to front-end heavy. To me it also is trying to make the car something its not... akin to the CGT bodywork.

I think the pic Boxtaboy posted is the best looking bumper upgrade for a 986.

Here's one all ready for modification...I bet you could even fit Mini Cooper headlights in there to create a very unique look (all in jest, btw)!!!

I wonder if those wheels are still available...
