"Hi. I am a new member and it seemed like you have abundance of knowledge. My 2001 boxster was left out in the rain and somehow the inside got soaked below in carpet and under seat. Subsequently many of the electronics have been switching on and off by them self. Now the car won't start. the key will turn and all the power works. the only things are not working are the trunk releases the lock system and the car wont turn over. ANy help??"

Hopefully, someone else on the BB can help you with the path forward but I'm willing to bet it is the CPU.

If you haven't already I would suggest removing your driver's seat and pulling the alarm brain asap to get it out of the water, take a hair dryer to it and hope it's not beyond redemption.

Also do a search on the forum about cleaning your drain tubes, sounds like you definitely have some stopped up.

Ditto Ditto, ditto.

They are remakably resilient can be saved If, you get to it real quick like.( couple days of breathing room tops, more and it gets iffy).

I'd add to idheaton prescription, if you see any white fuzzy corossion, give it scrub with a fine wire brush and WD 40 (or contact cleaner). Do the same with the connectors....and leave it out and open, on it's end and in a warm place for day or so for good meassure.

waterlogged corrosion

Thank you all for your advice. I removed the seat and control unit. there was still water in it even though i dried the carpet and under the seat a few days ago. i took it apart and it had corrosion all throughout. i dried it out and cleaned all the contacts as best i could and put it back in. no change.

What do you guys think the likelihood the ignition starter switch is shot coincidentally since I basically have all other power except door locks and windows? Thanks in Advance

Congratulations, You've just met one... Me! (Charmed I'm sure).

In fact, I've resurrected mine...twice, from almost complete submersion. I finally wised up and drilled a hole through the floor, insurance till I tracked down the leak ,and till a new leak develops.

No I don't think any old one will do (security device). It will need to be programed with a PS?II. Weather it needs to be brand new or a junkyard job I don't know.

Adam(?)

1) Others will scoff, but I drilled a hole in the floor down stream from the thing, primed the exsposed metal. Fixed the origional leak to but I'm ready for the next.

2)That security box when on the fritz causes all sorts of bazaar problems. Thats because just about everything electrical goes through it. Hold on to you ignition switch money till you straighten out the black box.

Regards, PK
