where can I learn about 2000 boxster flat 6 motor?

I would like to know the technology used in my 2000 flat 6 motor. I've been to wikipedia reading up on the flat 6, but I want more info. Does it have VVT? or intake manifold butterflyies? Does anyone know of a good site with this info?

Thanks
Nick

Finding info on these motors is hard to come by. So I'll do you a favor and let you know what I found.

Code is going to be M96. It varies as it's used from boxster, to caymen, to NA Carrera.

Compression ratio: 11.0:1 around there depending on which application

Injector size is 23lbs/min

You can tell which motor has a butterfly valve as it sits within the 2nd chamber of the intake manifolds of 2.7L and later motor cars.

VarioCam is also used, with VarioCam Plus in later cars.

Buy the Boxster service manual published by "Bentley". I bought mine on Amazon I think. It has a great detailed history of the technology and changes to the engine year-by-year from 1997 to 2004.

Nick and others of similar interest. I have found the book "Porsche Boxster Story" The entire development history by the Late Paul Frere to be invaluable in answering your type of questions. It covers the changes from model year to model year and is a great reference. It is published by Haynes in the UK, www.haynes.co.uk and its ISBN code is 1 84425 009 1 You can find it online at many of the book sellers. I highly recommend it.

Check youtube.

I've seen a vid of a very geeky German Porsche engineer who heads the engine department or something.

The way he speaks and looks is very stereotypical; exactly how I imagined the guy who designed-built my car's engine hehe
